Cinnamon Leaves
15 T. ground cinnamon, plus extra to dust surface
12 T. applesauce
leaf-shaped cookie cutter, (or any shape desired)
bowl, spoons, rolling pin, straw, cookie sheet

Make the Cinnamon Leaves. Blend cinnamon and applesauce together in bowl and mix well; dough should be stiff. Add more applesauce if dough does not stick together. Sprinkle work surface with cinnamon. Roll out dough to 1/4" thickness. Use cookie cutter to cut out 7 leaves. Place cut shapes on cookie sheet. Use straw to make holes at center of each leaf. Bake in 150 degree oven along with apples for 3 to 4 hours until dry or even in color.

This is my favorite recipe for making Christmas ornaments. My whole house smells great when I make a batch of these.

1- 16oz. can applesauce
1/3 cup flour
6 or 7 oz. cinnamon

Mix together and make a dough. Cut shapes with cookie cutters and don't forget to make a hole to hang the ornament. I use a toothpick but make the hole large enough to string some ribbon or heavy thread. I do NOT bake these. You need to place them on wax paper or cookie sheets and turn them daily to dry. It will take about three days to completely dry. You can paint them if you want to. I like to cut out hearts and leave them just the way they are and tie them onto packages. They make great gifts for those you visit teach as well. Great gifts for kids to take to their teachers, too. I like to make gingerbread men and paint them. I've also cut out wreaths and Christmas trees and snowmen and painted them. It's easy enough for kids to make, too.
