Breath of Heaven - Mary's Song
Christmas Experience

Show the video Luke II (should be in your ward library or on the CD called the Nativity which can be purchased through the church distribution website)  with the sound muted and play "Breath of Heaven- Mary's Song" found on the "Home For Christmas Amy Grant CD.  This is very moving and spiritual and a great ending to a lesson on the Savior at Christmas time

Note from Patty (12/20/06) We did this with our young women last Sunday and I couldn't find Amy Grants cd so I bought the Gladys Knight Christmas cd which has Breath of Heaven on it. It turned out beautiful. And she has sounds in the background playing while she is singing also.

We had a lesson on Mary the mother of Jesus. We discussed that Mary would have been the age of some of the YW in the room and we talked about what it must have been like. Then we played the Luke II video (also located on the New Testament CD called "To This End Was I Born") and played the Amy Grant song Breath of Heaven at the same time. The video has no words and it is timed perfectly to fit.

The song is also Mary singing about what it is like to be chosen to be the mother of the Messiah.

(Note from Stacey )

Mary had the script memorized... more or less. Not word perfect. She knew it enough to tell it as if she really were Mary. She was worried about remembering it & so had a small piece of paper cupped in her hand. Some, I know, she did word perfect. At other times she paraphrased and said it in her own words when she couldn't remember word for word and she did sneak a look a time or two. It did not distract. She did a beautiful job & it was neat. Everything was all set up before hand... the lights out, candles & fire in fireplace, Bethlehem scenes on three walls behind her & to both sides, hay on the floor, she was dressed in sandals & long robe with blue shawl, the manger & baby Jesus naked except a fabric diaper & a blanket wrapped around him which he kept kicking off. We had taken the girls caroling & this just "happened" to be the last house we stopped at. The girls had no idea this was planned. We started singing & Mary's "husband" came to the door & put his finger up to his lips & whispered "shhhhh, the baby is sleeping" and since they had just had a baby, the girls thought he was talking about his baby. He motioned us to come in & we tiptoed in.

Later the girls said that as they came in & the house was dark & they came in and saw that whole scene they thought that maybe we had interrupted their family home evening! Nothing was said...we just came in & motioned to the girls to sit down. We sat on the floor. Mary was sitting in a small, very simple rustic chair. She told her story while the baby lay in the manger & kicked & she held him for part of the time. When she was finished speaking she took him in her arms & sang to him. She just sang very simply with no music to accompany her. It was beautiful. Her husband was going to dress as Joseph, but it didn't end up that way. At one point the baby Jesus was starting to cry & she was not able to calm him while she kept talking so he came in and stood next to her & kind of bounced him with the baby facing us. He just cooed & smiled at us & was adorable & none of that took away from the whole spirit one bit! It was wonderful.
