Standards Night - Going to The Temple

Last year we had a very special one. A very young Bishop in our Stake and his wife spoke. They showed a video of when he actually proposed to her inside the Joseph Smith Memorial Bldg. It was darling...in the middle of a tour, the guide said something to him and then he got down on his knee's and actually proposed to her right there! The tour group started singing "Choose the Right,...when a choice is placed before you," right after he popped the question! (he had this all worked out before hand of course, but she had no idea. The tour guide was actually his Institute teacher and the other members of the tour were from his Institute class) After she said yes, they all began to sing, "Going to the Temple and They're Going to get Married!" He had someone filming the whole thing, unknown to her. They also showed the part of the video as they were coming out of the Temple on their Wedding Day. After they showed the video, they gave an incredible talk on the importance of marrying in the Temple. They haven't been able to have children, and have adopted two little girls. They spoke of the importance of a Temple Sealing and that because of that power their little girls are theirs forever. There wasn't a dry eye in the room! At the end of their talk they held up a box of Vanilla Wafers. Then they held up a very lovely layered dessert that was made in a crystal goblet. They asked the girls which dessert they would prefer to eat. All of the girls of course chose the dessert in the crystal goblet. They talked about the comparison of the desserts. The Vanilla Wafers representing marrying outside the Temple and the dessert in the crystal goblet represented a Temple Wedding.

Afterwards we served the dessert in the crystal goblets for everyone. (that was kind of a chore to round up that many crystal goblets, but it was well worth it!) For decorations we had all of the leaders Wedding pictures, and several Wedding Dresses on display. I think the secret is to get a couple to speak, that the girls really look up to. This particular couple are very popular with the kids in our Stake. They have spoken before at Youth Conference and the wife was very involved in YW Sports in our Stake and the girls just love her.
