Stagehand walks across stage holding a sign that says "Kim’s
college dorm room."
Kim and friend talking on the phone.
Kim: So, Jill, how did you like the show?
Jill: Oh Kim, it was soooo great! You have so much talent,…(etc.,
etc)...Are you going to perform professionally when you’re done with
school?
Kim: Well, yeah, I’ve thought about it, but guess what? I was talking
to the bishop about going on a mission. He thinks it’s a great idea.
I’ve been praying about it, and it’s definitely what the Lord wants me
to do. I’ve got the papers here in my hand.
Knock on door
Jill: Really?
Kim: Hey Jill, sorry, but I gotta go. Someone’s at the door. Bye.
Kim answers door. Agent is stand there.
Kim: Hi.
Agent: Hello, you’re Kim, aren’t you? I saw you in tonight’s show.
You have quite a voice.
Kim: Why thank you.
Agent: May I come in? (she comes in) Kim, I represent ………….. I
think you have superstar quality. I think you could be the next……………. I
would like to offer you a recording contract. Three albums in 5 years. A
million dollars for each album, plus royalties, of course. And after
that, TV, movies, who knows? The sky’s the limit. Fame, fortune,
millions of adoring fans, you can have it all.
Kim: WOW! Really? That’s incredible! (she pauses) But, wait. Can I
put it off for a couple of years? I’m going on a mission for my church.
Agent: Really? What a quaint idea. But sorry, kid. You’re fresh now.
You’ve got IT now. In a couple of years, who knows? I mean, what if you
gain 20 pounds? Then you’d be worthless. It’s now or never, kid. But
it’s not much of a contest, is it? I mean, you’d have to be crazy to
turn down 3 million dollars and fame and fortune.
Kim: Yeah, that would be crazy, wouldn’t it?
Agent: It sure would. So here are the papers. Look them over and sign
them, I’ll be back later to pick them up, and you can start planning how
to spend all that money!
Agent gives Kim some papers and leaves. Kim sits down and looks at
two sets of papers in her hand.
Kim: But what about my mission? I was so sure when I prayed about it,
but now I don’t know. Well, I’m going to listen to a little more of
Sheri Dew’s talk, and then I’ll sleep on it and decide in the morning.
Kim pushes button on cd player and voice says:
Satan, of course, knows how spiritually potent the knowledge of our
divine identity is. He hates women of the noble birthright. He hates us
because he is almost out of time, while we are en route to everlasting
glory. He hates us because of the influence we have on husbands and
children, family and friends, the Church and even the world. It is no
secret to him that we are the Lord's secret weapon.
Kim pushes button again, stretches and yawns.
Kim: The Lord’s secret weapon, eh? I don’t feel much like a secret
weapon. I mostly feel sleepy.
Kim lays down and closes her eyes.
Stagehand comes across stage holding a sign that says "Dream
Sequence"
Girl 1. comes in holding a briefcase. She taps Kim on the shoulder.
Kim starts awake.
Kim: Who are you? How did you get in here?
Girl 1: It was easy, I’m part of your dream sequence.
Kim: Oh, okay. What do you want?
Girl 1: The more important question is, what do you want? Do
you want to be the Lord’s Secret Weapon? Do you want to be a hero?
Kim: I sure do!
Girl 1: Then here is your first tool. (Hold up briefcase) This
is the Briefcase of Choice and Accountability. Right now it’s
empty, but you choose every day what kinds of things you want to put in
it and carry around with you. I have some friends who are coming here to
give you some great stuff, but there are other choices, too. Remember,
once you put something in there, you have to take it with you. If you
decide you don’t like it after all, it might be impossible to get it
out.
Kim: Gee, thanks.
Girl 1: Don’t mention it. (she leaves, Girl 2 enters)
Kim: Hi, do you have something for me, too?
Girl 2: I sure do. These are the X-ray Glasses of Divine Nature
and Individual Worth. With these glasses, you can see not just
mortality, but you can glimpse what came before and what comes after.
You can see that you lived with God before this life, that he has a plan
for you, and that you can live with him again. It cuts through all the
superficial things the world judges us by and helps us see ourselves and
each other for what we are, daughters of a loving Heavenly Father.
Kim: Cool. Maybe I should put them in my briefcase where they’ll be
safe.
Girl 2: Good idea. (she leaves. Girl 3 enters )
Girl 3: Hi Kim.
Kim: How’d you know my name?
Girl 3: It was easy. You see, I’m here to give you the Decoder
ring of Knowledge. There are so many people out there, telling us
all sorts of things. This decoder will help you understand which
messages are true and which are lies designed to lead us astray. It can
also help you find and develop the talents Heavenly Father has given
you.
Kim: Wow, that will sure come in handy. Thanks.
(she puts it in
her briefcase)
Girl 3: Sure thing. (she leaves. Girl 4 enters)
Kim: What do you have for me?
Girl 4: What I have here are Gloves for Good Works. Every hero
needs a good pair of work gloves. Now, I know these aren’t glamorous. In
fact, they’re kind of faded and worn out, but these will help you to
help others with the talents you develop. And I’m not talking about just
your performing talents. I mean things like teaching with the spirit, or
just being a good listener. These gloves will help you lift more than
you could before, and keep hold of things that are important.
Kim: Thanks. I’m going to use these a lot.
(she puts them in
briefcase)
Girl 4: I hope so. (she leaves. Girl 5 enters)
Kim: What’s that?
Girl 5: This is your Rope of Integrity. You can use this rope
in two ways. You can use it to anchor yourself to the Gospel principles
you need to make good decisions. And your integrity can also help you
bind up temptations, so they don’t have any influence over you.
Kim: Really? That’s awesome! Thanks!
Girl 5: My pleasure. (she leaves, Girl 6 enters)
Kim: What do you have for me?
Girl 6: (with great flourish she holds up can of silly string)
This is the Sword of Faith
Kim: (looking doubtful) That’s the Sword of Faith?
Girl 6: Well okay, so it’s not a sword. It’s really a can of
faith, but that sounds so stupid! Anyway, you can’t fit a sword in your
briefcase. The sword of faith will help you defend yourself against
worldly influences. It will protect you from discouragement and despair.
Faith gives us the courage to keep going when life is uncertain. With
faith, we can accomplish anything that God wants us to do.
Kim: Anything?
Girl 6: Anything!
Knock comes on door.
Kim: Come in.
Agent enters, wearing horns and holding trident.
Agent: Well, have you signed the papers? Are you ready for fame,
fortune, and all the pleasures the world has to offer?
Kim: No, I haven’t signed the papers. I’ve decided to go on a
mission.
Agent: Why, what’s the matter with you? Are you stupid? Are you
crazy? You could have riches, you could have glory. You could have cute
guys by the dozen.. All your friends would envy you. You would be sooo
happy!
Kim puts on glasses, gloves and ring.
Agent: What are those silly things?
Kim: These are the tools I need to defeat you! I can see clearly now
that the things you offer me are not important. I know now that your
promise of happiness is a lie. I will go on a mission and find joy in
service. (she ties up agent) When I am true to what I know, you
have no power to tempt me. (she takes silly string from Girl 6)
And the power of my faith will defeat you!
Kim sprays agent with silly string, who "melts"
Girls 1-6 enter, cheering.
All Girls together: Now you are truly The Lord’s Secret Weapon!
Stagehand comes in and holds up sign saying "Kim Wakes Up"
Kim lays down again. Girls leave. Stagehand leaves. Kim wakes and
stretches.
Kim: That was a really weird dream. But now I know what to do. I want
to be the Lord’s secret weapon. I want to be a hero! Mission Kim
possible!
Kim tears up papers from agent and drops pieces.
The crowd goes wild (hopefully).
