One year for our Stake
Standards Night we held a "Hold to the Rod" night. There is an orchard
beside our stake center and we had different people stationed strategically along the path
who would try and lead the youth astray. Our stake YM presidency dressed up like a
rock group - had loud music playing - , a young men's president dressed up like a
"drug pusher" - he looked really nice and tried to make taking and selling drugs
as attractive as he possibly could. Some of the Young Women presidencies dressed up
like Flower Children and talked about "Women's Rights, Free Love, etc. We
had people who were hiding but who would call out softly at first - trying to convince
them that the mutual activity was stupid and to come with them (they even pretended to be
the friends of some of the youth who they knew). We even had a truck parked out in
the middle of the orchard that had a big tub of dry ice flowing - the Mist of
Darkness". At the end of the rope that was strung all throughout the orchard we
had "Lehi" waiting and holding out his arms inviting them to come and partake of
the fruit of the Tree of Life. The tree was strung with white fairy lights and
looked beautiful. They were given an apple (kind of an interesting choice °Ü°)
for their fruit. When everyone had made it to the Tree of Life we then
separated into Wards and Bishops spoke to the youth of their own wards and addressed the
individual needs using "For the Strength of the Youth". Each ward provided
refreshments in the room where the bishop was speaking to their youth. It was
very successful and we still have youth who talk about it.
