I love this idea!!! They used it for camp, but I think you could use this for a fun mutual night, or have a
Wacky Shorts Dance. Thanks Ronda!

Hi there!
I have been seeing a lot of things on the dress standard and I know this is such a tough
one. I just thought I'd share this idea of what our girls do every year for camp.
We have a WACKY SHORTS contest. We get together before camp and bring jeans to
cut off or weird shorts that they've bought at Value Village, and then we decorate them
with patches, lace, beads, scraps of material or whatever we can find. We brought
all we could find (scraps of material, beads, ribbons, lace, ric-rac, etc.)
and 2 sewing machines. Most of the girls brought cut offs. Some even brought
some of their too short shorts and we added on to them. They have to be knee length
or below. Then at camp they model them and usually wear them the whole time. We have
a song they sing to the tune of "Do your ears hang low" but it's "Do
your shorts hang low".
They also have a contest and the other wards all vote on who has the wackiest shorts. Then
the top 3 are given some sort of prize like a candy bar or something.
This has really helped our girls to obey the knee length rule. It gives them permission to
dress out of style and not feel like a nerd, as they would say. Especially the new
beehives. Thank goodness the styles of long shorts are back. The Capri's and pedal
pushers!!! Yah!!!
Hope this idea helps someone!!!! Ronda, in still raining in Seattle!!! Here is
the song they sing for the rest of the Camp as they model their shorts for them:
Do your shorts hang low, Do they touch the knee below
Can you pull em up to here, and they still go down to there,
Can you sit cross legged and you don't feel really naked,
Do your shorts hang low?
This sure has helped our girls to have fun being modest!!!!
