“Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; and walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice.  For ye were sometimes darkness, but now ye are light in the Lord; walk as children of light.  For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth.”   Ephesians 5:1-2, 8-9

Dear Young Women,

Sister Jayne Malan, a previous counselor in the General Young Women’s Presidency said, “Young women, read from your scriptures every day. When you pray and talk with your Heavenly Father, when you let him communicate with you through the scriptures and through his Spirit, you will find answers to your prayers.”  This year at camp we will be providing you time to do just that.  Solo Time - thirty minutes alone in nature to ponder, pray, search the scriptures, and record your feelings.

In this journal are some scriptures relating to our camp theme, Celestial Navigators – Truth our Guiding Star, and our daily themes of Gaze Upward, Look Inward, Reach Outward and Press Forward.  Please take the time to look up and read these scriptures and record your feelings in this journal.  Included is also a place to write down your testimony and what you can do when you get home to continue navigating on your celestial journey.

There are also scriptures you need to read while at camp to pass off your certification. (See list on back page)  These can be read at Solo Time or before bed during STAR Time. (Stop Talking and Read)

I pray that camp will be a wonderful experience for you.  That you will have fun, develop friendships, and make memories you will cherish and reflect back on often.  More importantly I pray that you will feel the Spirit this week and your testimony of gospel truths will grow so that you can navigate successfully through the storms of life. I love each of you and know that God loves you also.  I know Christ died for us and that through Him we will be able to enjoy the blessings of exaltation and eternal life if we will do all that is required of us and strive to become like Him and do what He would do.

 Love Sister Winn

Tuesday – Gaze Upward

As we begin to navigate on our journey we must know where we want to go.  Our destination is to return worthily to live with to our Heavenly Father in the Celestial Kingdom.

Just like the North Star is used to navigate, truth will be our constant guiding star that will light our path.  The truths we need to know are that God lives and loves us, that we are His daughters and have inherited divine qualities, and that we must have faith in His eternal plan, which centers in Jesus Christ.  Navigating with an eternal perspective will help us stay on course.

Scriptures: Moses 2:26-27, 1 Nephi 17:36, Psalm 82:6, Romans 8:16-17, D&C 50:41-44, D&C 20:17-19

Each Sunday we stand and repeat “We are daughters of our Heavenly Father who loves us and we love Him.”  What does it mean to me personally to be a daughter of God?

Wednesday – Look Inward

Storms will come and try and get us off course.  We will need a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and the plan of Salvation to keep us on course.  We must live worthily to have the Holy Ghost with us.  He will guide and direct us, and teach us truths that will lead us back to our heavenly home.

Scriptures: Helaman 5:12, John 17:3, Mormon 9:21, 25, Mormon 5:16-18

Do I have a testimony of Jesus Christ and His gospel?  Why do I need one?

Thursday – Reach Outwards

On our journey a few qualities of the Savior that we must develop are service, sacrifice and a love for everyone.  As we reach outward to others through service, sacrifice and love we will have more friends, better relationships with others, our families will be strengthened, and we will be better prepared for our future roles as wives, mothers and leaders in the church and our communities.

Scriptures: Luke 6:27-37, 1 John 4:7-11 (pg 1559), Mosiah 2:17, Mosiah 18:8-10, Moroni 7:45, 47-48,

How can I love others and be of better service?

Friday – Press Forward

Today is our last day at camp and so tomorrow as we go home we must press forward as we continue to navigate on our celestial journey.  By setting goals with an eternal perspective we can apply all that we have learned at camp.

Peace comes in following Christ’s light and in becoming more like Him by keeping the commandments, loving each other, being willing to sacrifice and serve others, and a knowledge that God lives and we are His daughters and have faith in His plan.  With our testimonies securely tied to Christ we will be able to withstand the storms of life and stay on course.  We will press forward, endure to the end and reach our destination of the Celestial Kingdom.
