NOW THAT I'M A WARD LEADER-WHAT DO I DO?
The Basics of Putting the Camp Week Together

  • I. INTRODUCTION

The calling of Camp Director is not a part-time calling.
    1. Educate your Priesthood leaders on the importance of having a camp director year round.
    2. Incorporate the Camp Director into your Presidency.

The Young Women's President and the Camp Director work hand-in-hand to plan and carry out the camp program.
    1. Presidents include the Camp Director in Presidency meetings, planning and carrying out of YW activities.
    2. This enables her to get to know the YW before camp and vice versa
    3. Be unified as leaders; this will help unify the YW

Every ward and stake does things differently.
    1. What is presented here today is simply a suggestion of what worked for us.
    2. Adapt to your own needs.

  • II. PREPARATION FOR BEING A CAMP DIRECTOR

    1. Read camp manual
    2. Prepare a binder for organization
    3. Gather ideas from past and present camp directors
    4. Study materials received at Shalom Winter Workshop
    5. Spiritual preparation

  • III. MEETINGS

    Camp Director
    1. With YW President and Camp Assistant
    2. Hold at least once a month following the Winter Workshop

    YW President
    1. Have Camp Director attend Presidency Meeting
    2. Allow time on the agenda for her to address needs and plans

  • IV. THEME

Helps in planning meaningful activities for the year as well as camp

Gives YW a sense of direction and purpose in attending activities and camp

Coordinate the General, Stake and Ward theme
    1. Example: General - "Faith In Every Footstep" Stake - "Come, Come Ye Saints: Living the Legacy" Ward - "Our Trek Home: Preparing Our Wagon"
    2. Request that your Stake provide you with the Stake Camp Theme for the next year as soon as possible after the current camp year. We hadour new theme for 1997 at our September, 1996 Stake camp meeting

    Promote the theme
Make it come alive! Coordinate your Golden Hours, your bedtime chats, your campfire programs, your decorations and all activities to make your theme important to each Young Woman.

  • V. PLAN WITH A PURPOSE

    A. What are the needs of the YW in your ward?
    B. What do you want to have happen in the lives of your YW? Make goals
    C. What experiences could help us reach the goals? Make a plan.
    D. What do we need to do to carry out the plan? Carry out the plan.
    E. Evaluate your camp experience.
