BUGS

We finally have our camp theme for 2002, BUGS; bringing up girls spiritually.  This is going to be oodles of fun. As a member of the SYWP I have been asked to give a bug of the day one day at flag ceremony. I can tell a story, poem, whatever or have them come to me during the day to hear something special about the bug and I am planning on giving them a bug token for their hat or whatever. I was thinking about doing the dragonfly but thought I would ask for any ideas. So. . . share whatever inspiration you have. I'm open and
ready.

What about ladybugs. They are very independent and have many good qualities.

Ladybugs are great because they keep pests out of the garden, etc. You could relate that to the young women and how they can keep satan from coming into their lives. And besides, ladybugs are soooo cute!

Several years ago our stake did this theme and our ward were the Praying Mantises with Prayer as our theme. The girls had caps made up with a praying mantis and "P.M.'S. We had a lot of fun with that.

My stake did a bugs theme (Bringing Upright Girls to the Savior) a few years ago and the level I worked with (4th) were Lady Bugs. We did a 'Lady Bug Release' one night for our conservation project. We got the idea from Disney World. We found an area of the camp where the unfriendly bugs (like aphids) were particularly bad, then released the lady bugs we had purchased at a plant nursery. (You just have to keep them cool so they don't wake up too much until you are ready to release them.) The girls loved it. We focused on Individual Worth and had red camp shirts, which we put black felt dots on with safety pins. Each was unique - just like we are!
