by:Tanya Stelly Sulphur, LA Wpstelly@aol.com I noticed in the Church News that a new song will be performed
at the Gen YW Broadcast. It can be found in the March 2002 New Era. You may
want to think about adding a performance of it to your YW Camp. It is entitled
"In That Holy Place."
The older I get, the more important my feet become to me. Now, I am not purporting
that we teach this as a science--however, in Reflexology, they have a chart that shows how
different places in the feet correspond to different places in our bodies. And I
have noticed that when I really hurt physically, a good foot massage can do wonders.
Which makes me think about the times that the Savior washed the disciples feet.
Perhaps you could do several little portions or combine all together--
Have foot massage stations. Let leaders, moms, etc., give short 5 minute massages.
Or if you can get enough of those electric ones--set up a station.
Have a foot washing where you pair up and give your partner a foot washing. Include
the story of how the Savior washed the disciples feet. Not only should we stand in
holy places, but our goal is to stand spotless before the Savior.
Washing=repentance.
Show the chart of Reflexology--allegorize how our feet effect how our bodies feel--reflect
problems in our bodies, and depending on where we place our feet (holy vs. unholy places)
effect spiritual health or spiritual disease.
Or
Just for FUN! Have a pedicure night! Have each cabin/group equipped with
files, clippers, lotion, cuticle cutters, cotton balls, polish remover, and nail polish.
I bet this would go over GREAT with that age group. Perhaps the nail colors
could include the YW Value colors. Knowing my oldest (who is a second year YCL this
year) she'd paint each toe a different color polish!
Standing in Holy Places, properly attired. Along with the nail polish and
washing, you could tie in dress standards for appropriate occasions. Different
activities demand different attire. Review the Church standards for different
activities. My mother always taught us that church clothes on Sunday should be our
"Sunday Best." I don't allow my girls to wear denim skirts to Sacrament
Meetings because I don't feel that is our "best" we have to wear.
"Best" doesn't mean "fanciest." It would not be appropriate to
wear formals and black tie to Sacrament meetings (even though I've seen boys and girls do
that the day after prom!). Top hat and tails would be out. Just as
inappropriate would be "baby doll" dresses that are TOO short. See through
or revealing clothing. Tennis shoes should not be viewed as appropriate (in spite
of the cost--ever see anyone in tennis shoes who gives forethought as to where they are
stepping?)
