Turning Point

by Alice Gifford 1/31/1999

I just returned from one of our Ward Conferences in the stake and I'm on a spiritual high!!!!   I showed the video "Turning Point" and felt the spirit so strongly in the room!!!!!   I love that we each can be a lighthouse and that the light we have within can be a 'turning point" for someone else and we may not even know it :-)  (Turning Point - Narrated by Og Mandino - a Video which tells the story of a  lighthouse keeper who leaves behind "thank you" letters that touch the lives of many who did not know he even existed. Thoughful acts, sincere apologies and kindness shown to one another may seem insignificant, but their effect can be profound and long-lasting.  I believe Deseret Book now carries it.  It's fabulous and ties in with many of the values )

One of the things I thought about today as I listened to the lessons was about keeping a journal of thoughts about favorite scriptures and what they mean to the YW at this point in their lives.  I know at different times I've received different inspiration from the same scripture.  The idea here is that she will have something to turn to in times of need  and also that a future child may be benefited from some of her thoughts as they read their mother's journal.  What do you think???????

I kept a journal for each of my boys as I was expecting them and wrote special things to them and try to update yearly.  I've been saving them for the appropriate time.  My oldest son "found" his this summer....I didn't give it to him.  I truly believe the Lord had a hand in it because it was so timely to his needs and at that time I guess I wasn't as "in tune" as I needed to be.  Anyway, it was a turning point for my son and me.
