By Alice GiffordRichard G. Scott said, "Do not take comfort in the fact that
your transgressions are not known by others. That is like an ostrich with his head buried
in the sand. He sees only darkness and feels comfortably hidden. In reality he is
ridiculously conspicuous. Like wise our every act is seen by our Father in Heaven and His
Beloved Son. They know everything about us. (April 1995 Conference Address)
Michael Allred uses the following analogy in his book
"You Might Be a Mormon If..."
"Repentance is a necessary part of happiness. We can
not be happy and do wrong. We can not be happy and not have the spirit of God with us.
Elder James E. Talmage said, "As the time of repentance is procrastinated, the
ability to repent grows weaker; neglect of opportunity in holy things develops
inability". (The Articles of Faith, pg. ll4)
"If you take a cup and fill it full of water then drop
in a few small rocks, the water spills over allowing room for the rocks. When we commit
sin, it's like putting rocks in our lives; those rocks push out the Spirit. When we sin,
the Spirit has to withdraw. Elder Henry D. Moyle said, "With transgression we also
lose the Spirit of God and the Holy Ghost as our comforter". (April 1963-pg. 46).
When the Spirit withdraws, our lives become darkened.
Repentance means more than just talking the spiritual rocks
out of our life; we must regain the Spirit that we have lost. The rocks do need to be
removed, but the cup needs to be filled up again with the Spirit of the Lord before Satan
steps in and occupies the void....."
I'd like to add the word "cold" to the above
statement. Sometimes I hear people say the church is just "too heavy". Have you
ever been cold and had someone put a nice warm comforter on you? It feels so nice!!!! But
if that comforter is taken away, the cold returns....the comfort you felt is gone and you
find yourself wishing for the weight of that comforter. I love the weight of "The
Comforter". Ü
