As I studied this lesson and the steps that lead to our final goal of "exaltation" I thought about how often in life we look for an easier way to do many things....at least I do. Take for instance exercise - °Ü° - when I started to get serious about exercise seven years ago I was "soft". Couldn't do much. I had to build up my endurance and strength and it took some time. Then I started feeling pretty good and decided to run the stairs, running two at a time. The next day, I was sore!!!! Could hardly walk let alone sit down to use the restroom °Ü° LOL °Ü° Why? Because I hadn't built up my endurance - I tried to do more than I was prepared to do.

In Michael Allreds' book, "You Might Be A Mormon If...." he asks a class, "What would you wish for if you had three wishes?" He said someone almost always says, "I would wish to go automatically to the celestial kingdom." The only problem is that if they're not prepared to be there, they would actually be sending themselves to hell."

My point is that it is important to take each step that leads us to the temple and then to continue climbing until we've obtained eternal life. If we try and take two steps at a time we miss some of the crucial training. What happens if we don't even take the steps but use the escalator or elevator? Each step we climb strengthens us to climb the next one. Thomas Paine said, "What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives everything its value.........

Another concept Brother Allred used that works with this lesson is Sesame Street's Cookie Monster. He was given three options after he won a contest. He could have a cookie immediately, a sports car in a little while, or a mansion if he was willing to wait a little longer. It isn't difficult to figure out which one he chose. Sometimes people are like the Cookie Monster. Satan effectively influences people to trade forever for a brief moment."

Isn't it true also that Satan would have us believe that we've climbed enough stairs.....that the other stairs are not important or that they can wait....we'll climb those later? Satan wants us to eat cookies - to spoil our appetite so we won't want dinner!

I love the quote in the manual "After you make covenants, you're not pulled to and fro by the world so easily. It's a strength to your life and helps you to keep righteous goals"

I've experienced the joy of making a goal and obtaining it. I've also had experiences where I didn't pay the price and the joy wasn't there. Each step will lead to a new challenge, a new covenant, and with each covenant we make we become stronger and our endurance increases enabling us to endure and climb even higher!

So let's keep climbing and we'll meet at the top! °Ü°
