| (This could be used as a family activity centered around
"Stand Ye In Holy Place - The Home" °Ü° - YW Connection) Submitted by Tami Stibal Nelson, Green Cove Springs, Florida
This activity idea matches lesson # 39 in Manual 3 or Lesson l0 - Manual l -
"Recognizing Our Individual Worth" and with the value Individual Worth #5 on pg.
49. The idea is to hang a sock from their bedroom doorknob and have family and friends put
little messages of love and encouragement inside the sock to that particular girl. Make a
pattern for a basic Christmas Stocking "Sock". Use plain white material or red
and white material. Sine the color for Individual Worth is red, decorate the sock with red
items. (I would not make this sock with a red Christmas stocking since that would be
confusing a holiday with this activity) Have the girls weave a one-inch satin ribbon
through the sock about an inch from the top, leave enough ribbon to make a bow at the top
and allow to hang from a doorknob. (You will need to help the girls carefully make slits
for the ribbon to go through. Maybe a yard of ribbon each.) Decorate the rest of the sock
with lace, buttons, puffy paint, felt scrapes, beads, silk flowers, a school picture, etc.
I made up a verse that you could use or you could think up one on your own depending on
your girls' needs. I would laminate the verse and make it into a tag that you could pin on
the sock. The verse goes like this....
I dare not ask, but I NEED to know,
what talented, wonderful things I sow,
Is there something 'bout me you have seen
some gift or goodness that you can glean?
Grab some paper, this is the key,
Write down each positive quality.
Then quietly, secretly, "Sock It To Me"
Touched by love, happy I will be!

Have the Girls take the "Sock It To Me's home to hang on their doorknobs. Encourage
their families to notice and participate by writing positive things about the girl and
sticking the notes in the sock!
