The events were more of a spoof on
summer olympic games, since winter ones are harder to do. We did a javelin throw using a
drinking straw, shotput with a cottonball, various relay races, high jump backwards,
sprint with two peoples ankles tied together, and some others.
My favorite was the "swimming". It was a relay. Each team
had fish cut out of tissue paper. Using a paper plate, they had to "fan" their
fish half way across the gym to where a paper plate waited. They had to get their fish
onto their plate using only their fan. Then they left their fan plate, and carried the
fish on the plate back to the next person, who put it on the floor and started fanning. It
was hilarious.
The last event we did was to eat the Olympic Rings (donuts) which
were suspended from strings, without using their hands. We were supposed to have medals
made from canning lids, but the deacons were in charge of that and they didn't get done.
Besides the fish one there was one where you put a pie tin on your head, a quarter in your
eye, a paper plate between your knees, and twirl a dishtowel while you run down to the
line and back.
Another one was holding a pencil between your nose and upper lip
and passing it down the line without using your hands (if you dropped it you could pick it
up and put it back on your face).
Another one was putting an orange under your chin and passing it
from person to person without using your hands.
Oh, and we did "archery" in the form of a game called
"bum darts". It's a relay where the first person on the team squeezes a quarter
between his "cheeks" and runs down to the line. Then he has to aim and drop the
quarter into a quart jar and then run back. The team with the most quarters in the jar
wins. It sounds a little disgusting, but it was probably the funniest one to watch.
Everybody was cracking up. Good Luck with your activity.
