Rope Analogy - Family Unity

Contributed by: Stephanie Thomas  mrs.keiththomas@yahoo.com  (3/6/08)

I used the rope analogy, but I did it a little differently. I had all types of ropes (some of them a bit of a stretch) from thread all the way to a tow rope for a vehicle. I talked to one of my YW before hand and taught her how to break twine without using scissors (you loop a piece over the other piece to make a +, then with one person holding the horizontal side of the plus you use the other piece to "saw" at it. You break through, but you have to really work on it.) I asked if anyone could break the thread and everyone's hand went up. I kept going and by the time I got to the twine only her hand was up. I asked her to show us. The girls all sat and stared at her. When she was done, I asked how she was able to break the rope. We talked about how she had to work and work at it and little by little she wore it down. We started to speak about how the adversary can work and work at us until we break in two. We read the scriptures and talked about how those applied in our homes and how satan works to keep our homes miserable and without the spirit.

I taught a similar lesson last year on the same type of subject. The subject was "Thermostat or Thermometer" and we talked about being the person to "set" the temperature or being the person that measures the temperature. I brought thermometers that my mom and I had and then an old thermostat we took out of our house.
