Personal Bags For
Women's Shelter

Contributed by: Susan in Canada lenbull@bconnex.net
Since so many sisters
requested this here is the list of items we've collected this year.
January - toothbrush and toothbrush holder
February - toothpaste
March - bar of soap and soap holder (travel kind)
April - bath puff
May - bath beads or bubble bath
June - deodorant
July - hair brush
August - hair comb
September - shampoo
October - body wash
November - dental floss
December - mirror
I calculated it to cost between $1.50 and $2.00 per month for the items, however I bought
a package of combs at our dollar store and got 12 for $1.00 so what was saved one month we
put into the next month for the more expensive things but nothing at our store was over
$2.00 so I calculated from there. The missionaries are providing us with pass along
cards to include in the card (signed by the Relief Society sisters) for the Nativity
video.
I made bookmarks and gave them out at the beginning of January and it had the list for
each month on it, plus I made a poster with a graph showing how many we had of each item.
I am pleased to report that it is almost complete, we are only short a couple of things so
we will put the bags together at Enrichment in December and I will deliver them to the
women's shelter that night. We have completed 30 bags and we are only a branch with about
125 sisters on the roll and about 40 active so imagine what could be done in a large ward.
This would be a great project for the young women, my daughter is having so much fun
shopping and making thank you cards and helping to collect the items. Oh I forgot to
mention that the Christmas bags were donated by my boss so tissue was the only thing that
I had to buy and he gave me a real deal on it.
