Optimism -  The Monkey

I am the Mia Maid advisor in our ward and last week did our lesson on Optimism.  We talked about the ill effects having a bad attitude can have and liken it to a monkey on your back.  Although you can mostly function, that monkey often hinders everyday activities.  As a handout I gave each member of our class a little monkey keychain (purchased online at Orientaltrading.com) and attached this little poem I wrote.  hope others might find this useful!  It was kinda fun!

The Monkey

Will I ever see the end? Can I get my work all done?

I’ve got so many things to do, this race just can’t be won!

This monkey, he’s a-itchin’, he’s a-scratchin’ at me too.

He wants me to feel heavy, that I just won’t make it through.

I know that I can shake him, ‘cause he can’t stay there all day.

I know if I endure it well, that I will be okay.

So I’ll keep my heart from achin’, shake that monkey off my back!

I’ll lift another’s burden, pick up another’s slack.

As I help and lift another, with a heart of purest gold,

I’ll find my outlook pleasant, that monkey’s got no hold!
