What if "you" are the new kid or the young woman who feels no love from those
around you? What do you do? What if you have tried to reach out to someone and they ignore
you or do not respond? It isn't easy but try these things. :-)
- Be Cheerful
- Say Hi first
- Are YOU friendly? Try your hardest to go out of your way
to say Hi first - even if you don't think they will notice you. "Remember the worth
of souls is great in the sight of God" D&C l8:l0
- Look for the Good in Others
- Be Positive
- Give Encouragement to Others
- Volunteer your help
- Live by the "Golden Rule" and treat others as
you hope they will treat you :-) (The play "My Turn on Earth" has a
cute song that is called the "Golden Rule". )
There is a fun story "I Want to Be Somebody
New!" by Robert Lopshire - it is a take off from "Spot" and
"Put Me in the Zoo". The summary reads, "Tired of doing tricks in a circus,
a large spotted animal decides he wants to be something different such as a mouse, an
elephant, or a giraffe.
Part of the story reads, "We liked you best, a whole, whole lot, when you were
just our old friend Spot" ...... "Say! You are right! As right can be! And it
does feel best to be just me!"
Sometimes we wish we could be like someone else. Someone more beautiful, someone with a
different figure than the one we've been "blessed" with °Ü°. We'd like
to be taller, shorter, freckled, no freckles, have straight hair, curly hair. Even shoe
size can be a problem for some of us. I remember one time a friend's mother said to me,
"I just don't understand how such a petite girl like you could have such big
feet!" I'd never thought about my feet up until that moment. All of a sudden I
thought, "hey, I do have big feet" and I started shopping for shoes that would
make my feet look smaller. I even purchased a few pairs of shoes that were just too
small. How foolish as I now look back. The sad part is, I don't have big feet. I have
normal feet. I'd look funny with any other feet than the ones I was born with but I let a
comment about my feet cause me discomfort - emotionally and physically. And I know
she didn't mean to make me feel bad.
Love yourself - KNOW that Father in Heaven Loves YOU! D&C l8:l0 Sometimes it is
difficult to trust others when there has been hurt and we build up walls of protection.
Pray for help to start taking down those walls and know that you are not alone...even
though sometimes it may feel that way. And if you come to my house, I'll make you brownies
----or if you're into health food - a protein drink and we can paint each other's toe
nails - mine are in desperate need !!! :-)))))
