Missionary Game

Here's a fun game I got from a teacher in released time seminary (Pres. Jones)  in Page, Arizona. It's a missionary simulation game and I try to play it when Paul goes on his missions, when Alma or Ammon goes on theirs, or when there is an opportunity to study missions. It's good anytime to play it and my students LOVE it.

Instructions:
3 to 5 people in each group (I set up the small tables and do 4 to a group)
1 dice per group
4 stacks of colored cards for each group
1 list of instructions for each group (I've laminated mine)

Objective: Bring as many people (cards) as you can to be baptized! By shaking the dice in turn and checking the progress of each person, you want to bring them from being an "interested" person, to being "excited", to being "ready" to finally being a "baptized" person.

dice numbers= progress or fall away of each person toward baptism 1 card = 1 person, progressing from each color.  i.e.:
blue= interested
green = excited
red = ready
pink = baptized

You'll need a lot in each stack.

DICE THROW
1. Each person rolls the dice in turn clockwise. No cards are dealt but are placed in 4 stacks by color - in order- at the center of the group. The HAVE to progress in order, in other words they can't jump from "interested" to" ready" without getting "excited".

Type these instructions for each group:

When you roll a #1 - This opens the door. Roll again and take this number of "interested" cards. This is how many you will be teaching.
When you roll a #2 - Trade "interested" card for "excited" cards
When you roll a #3 - Roll again. A #1 - you lose all your "interested" cards (#'s 2-6 mean they are still excited, so you don't lose them.)
when you roll a #4 - Missionary transfers. Roll again. Even numbers (2,4,6) STAY! Odds (1,3,5) everyone moves to the right - one chair. Leave ALL your
cards except "baptized" cards.
When you roll a #5 - Trade all "excited" cards for "ready" cards
When you roll a #6 - Roll again. All numbers, except 6 - trade "ready" cards for "baptized" cards. If you roll a #6 again, you lose all your "ready" cards. The devil won them!

(end of instructions)

In this missionary simulation you experience frustration and joy in gaining and working with people to teach them. When you transfer you may leave great numbers of interested people and move to an area where there are no contacts! Likewise, you may transfer from a long period of no contacts to an area of many. Bringing people to Christ is a great joy.   Losing them is a great frustration. In summary, fulfilling a mission is a tremendous experience. It becomes a labor of love for people (cards) and their eternal progress.

If you have any questions just e-mail me. I get requests to play this again. I don't do it more than twice a year because I don't like to over-do any game.
