(1/25/04) Here is an object
lesson/magic trick/science experiment. You could say that you are going
to do something impossible....change the color of water by adding things
to it that are not colored. You need to boil a green cabbage and save
the water. Put the water in two different clear containers. Add some
white vinegar to one jar and the liquid will turn bright pink/red. Add
washing soda to the other jar (baking soda works too, but washing soda
makes a brighter color) and it will turn deep green. Then if you want to
be really amazing you can turn the green to red by adding vinegar and
the red to green by adding soda. The colors and pretty dramatic so it is
fun. As you have figured out, it is all matter of the PH balance of acid
and alkali.

I am looking for an object lesson
that goes along with the theme Mission Possible. I guess just something
that seems impossible to
the audience or your volunteer then you show how it works.
