we had individual class activities and as YW President, I conducted for the Laurels. We
had a GREAT lesson and it was all little things I'd found on this list! They all agreed it
was one of the best mutual they had had in a long time! I just called it "Hodgepodge
Night". I read the Ninety and
Nine story and then play "One of the ninety and nine" by Michael McLean.
Wanted to let them know just how important they all are and how much they are appreciated.
I had them find their favorite hymn and read it out loud (not sing), discussed what they
felt about it and then had them read the scripture reference at the bottom.
I read to them the list of items that the Beehives
had to do in 1916 in order to earn their recognition (They thought that one was a
hoot!. In fact, they have all volunteered to do one of the items on the list - to all give
up for three months all sodas, ice cream, chewing gum, and candy...
I showed them prints of Thomas Virgins pencil drawings, which they thought were awesome. I
gave them each a printed copy of the face of Christ
that you stare at. They loved that too. The hour and a half flew by.They had a ball and I
believe that they really felt the spirit throughout the entire evening. They are usually a
very hard group to please (5 of them) so it was very rewarding to hear them say they
enjoyed it a lot.

Last night we did the Hodgepodge Night activity.
The girls enjoyed it so much and there was little preparation. One thing I
added that really seemed to make it seem like a special occasion is I had the girls bring
a blanket or pillow to sit on the Relief Society room floor with. I also brought a lamp to
be our light instead of the bright fluorescent lights. It was darker and slumber
party-like. I think it really added to the intimate, special occasion feel. (Note: one
lamp wasn't enough for the room but there was a lamp in the foyer we borrowed. You may
have lamps at your bldg. already that you never noticed.)
