My ward just had a Fear Factor type
Mutual night and it was a huge hit with the YM/YW.
For the first stunt the kids had to dig
through a plate of flour to find 10 sour patch kids (any candy will
do) with out using their hands. We had about 5 kids at a time and we
just rotated until they all had turns. They had like a minute to do
it, and whoever had found the most at the end of the time won. Then,
after they all did the stunt, we told them the moral was sometimes you
have to dig through the bad to find the good. Don't give up, it's in
there.
Then for the second stunt they had a
chugging contest. One sister brought a fly trap with lots of dead
flies and a pile of dirt with real worms, to display on the table.
Just for effects. Then they poured the drink into cups and again had
about 5 kids go at once and continued to take turns until all that
wanted a turn went. They had 15 sec. to chug. The drink was made with
all edible things like flour, water, chocolate, raisins, walnuts but
it wasn't exactly tasty. The moral of this was good and bad don't mix.
Try to keep them separated and strive to do good.
The last stunt was a physical challenge.
We used free weights and divided them among the kids. Again in groups
of 4 or five. We had them hold their arms out for as long as they
could. Then after all the kids had a turn, one leader came up. After a
few seconds the leader said she was tired and asked for help. So the
leader in charge put up her arms and helped her hold the weight. Then
the leader that helped offered to just take the weight for her. She
agreed and then the stunt was over. This last stunt was likened unto
repentance. The weight representing sin and what Heavenly Father will
do with the weight when we repent.
Any stunt and or moral can be used. It was
just a fun way to have the kids participate in an object type lesson.
Then after it was over the kids all got No Fear bags,( brown lunch
sacks with a NO Fear sign taped on) with goodies inside. It was a fun
night.
