Frilly the Kid & The Value Bandits

Contributed by: Brenda Herbert ( brendahebert@comcast.net) (3/30/08)

I  thought I would share this skit so someone else could take advantage of all the work.    It also includes an activity.  The idea of the activity is to get everyone interacting during dinner in ways they may not normally while at the same time introducing the values.

This skit was designed to be done by the leaders It is very simple and includes a dinner.  We try to do something every New Beginnings as leaders.  We did a song, a dance and this year decided to do a skit and have the girls do a dance.  This skit could be done with the girls just as easy as using the leaders.  Also the Value Bandit parts can be split into 2.  Example, Faith Bandit 1 and Faith Bandit 2.

Frilly The Kid & The Value Bandits

New Beginnings 2008

Before Dinner (after prayer)  Frilly the Kid enters on horse stick and says, “Whoa Bessie”.  He is all dressed in frills.

Frilly The Kid – My name’s Frilly the kid.  (Pause)  You think that’s funny?  You try being stuck with that name!  So all you come out here looking for gold?  You all out here trying to get rich?  You heard about the gold out in these here hills?  Well it is MY gold!  If you know what’s good for you, you wouldn’t be sticking around here.  (pat gun in holster)  There be bandits around here!

Deputy – Are you bothering these good people Frilly?

Frilly The Kid – Oh no, I was just welcoming em… Welcoming em and warning em about those goodie two shoe Value Bandits.

Deputy – Oh those Value Bandits are just a legend Frilly.

Frilly The Kid – A legend who is mining for this here gold of mine and giving it to charity…. Those no good, dirty, rotten do-gooders!  Those Value Bandits are giving me a BAD name!  If any of you be seeing em you be letting me know!  I will show them what being a bandit really means…. Come on Bessie (the stick horse) lets go beat them to the mother load!  (Gallops away and says)  YEE HAW!!

Deputy – Sorry...  I didn’t get a chance to introduce myself.  I am the deputy of CTR Junction.  That Frilly the Kid is bad news.  He plans to find the mother lode and take over this town.  Instead of CTR Junction, I am afraid we would become CTW Junction.  That would be quite a tragedy but if we could find the mother lode first, we could save CTR!  Will you help me?  (motion the audience to respond – ask again until the audience agrees)  I have some clues here for ya’all.  These clues should help us find the mother lode before that bandit.  Don’t open up your clues until you are told.  I am going to go see if I can find some more clues.  I will come back later and see what ya’all have figured out.  Now go get some grub, you are going to need your energy to solve this puzzle.

Serve Dinner Western Style – tin plates, quart jars…  Peanuts on Table.  Serve BBQ, Beans, Potato Casserole, Salad & Rolls.  Cobbler for Dessert.

Clues are given to each table:

Envelope 1= Clue 1 & Activity 1 – Given by Beehive Presidency after everyone gets their plates and are sitting.

Envelope 2 = Clue 2 & Activity 2 – Given by Mia Maid Presidency after about 10 minutes or when everyone looks done with the first envelope

Envelope 3 = Clue 3, Activity 3, and Clue 4.   – Given by Laurel Presidency right after dessert it served.

Personal Progress = If we want someone to talk about Personal Progress have them do it after the everyone is done with Envelope 3.  Just talk for 5 minutes tops on Personal Progress.

End of Dinner:  Deputy comes in smiling.

Deputy - I found the mother lode!   Can you believe it?  The Value Bandits led me right to it!  (Value Bandits come in together = the leaders)  Time to celebrate!

(Have the girls come up here and hooting and hollering and have them do their line dance!)

Frilly The Kid – Did I hear someone say they found gold?  Is this a trick?  Where’s my treasure?

(Girls run back to their seats when they hear Frilly the Kid)

Faith Bandit:

Frilly Bandit tricks are for kids!

The treasure we found, it lies within.

It is something you can’t see yet something you know.

Having faith in the Lord is more precious than gold.

Frilly the Kid – A treasure that you can’t see is no treasure at all.  Has that white hat made you lose your mind?

Knowledge Bandit: (Green)

Your mind is a gift from God that you are given.

All that you know goes with you to heaven.

Knowledge is the key

To unlock eternity!

Frilly the Kid – I don’t know anything about heaven just give me my gold and I’ll be leavin.  Oh no! now I am a rhyming too, get you all out, go away, shooo!!!

Divine Nature Bandit: (Blue)

To know of your nature, that it is Divine

More precious than gold are you in His sight.

Frilly the Kid – More precious than gold you say I am! That is crazy, I am out of here man!

Individual Worth Bandit: (Red)

Before you go

Of your worth you must know

If you could just realize

That value that you have inside!

Frilly the Kid – The only value that I be knowin is the kind that sparkles and is a glowin!

Good Works Bandit: (yellow)

With every good deed, from within you will glow

A feeling this good is better than any mother lode.

Frilly the Kid –

The mother lode, you found it, you are a stinking thief,

Give it here this moment or I’ll see you rest in peace!

Integrity Bandit: (purple)

Aah peace is a possession that many do seek

Integrity and honesty will bring that to the meek.

For when you live with honor, happy you will be

Possessions can be bought but joy does not come free!

Frilly the Kid – Now my head is spinning, you’ve got me all confused.  I speak of gold and riches and you talk of God’s values?

Choice & Accountability Bandit: (orange)–

It is all a matter of choice, each decision that you make

Will decide your future and your heavenly fate.

If you choose wisely, then you will find

That the riches of eternity, in your values lie!

Frilly the Kid – Can someone please explain exactly what you mean?  Did you find the mother load or is this just a dream?

Deputy – Frilly the Kid – don’t you get it?  This rhyming thing really is quite contagious!    In CTR Junction there is no value in gold.  Living the gospel standards is the mother lode!   Oh… here comes the Sheriff!  Where have you been?  Will you explain to these people what I’m trying to say?

Sheriff – Have the bishop speak to the girls about Standing Fast to the Values.  The Values of the world are like Fools Goals and but the Standards of the Church never change…

Song:  “You’ve Got To Stand For Something”  performed by a male guitarist
