We have a great idea that
we are going to do with YM / YW to introduce the theme. We have put
together a slide show of our youth with various snapshots, pictures
of lighthouses and temples, mostly ones that are shining at night or
through a storm or something like that, pictures of flags from
around the world, President Hinckley, Book of Mormon and a few
Mormon ads and so forth. We are showing this slide presentation,
about 10 minutes, and then we have made copies of our own Canadian
Flag and the youth are going to write their testimonies onto the
back of the flags, whether it be one sentence or many. We then have
found addresses of Bishops from about 30 countries around the world,
and are going to send our testimonies on the flags to them with a
letter stating that we would like it to be given to a youth that he
knows, and requesting that we might receive a flag with a testimony
back in return. I am going to try to have a picture of each youth
that writes their testimony to send with the flag as well. We hope
to receive a bunch of flags back by the end of the year, to build
our Standard to the Nations Board on our wall. We then are going to
have a flag designing contest for our own ward to design a flag that
will represent the theme for the year and our ward in all of our
activities and things we do. We will also hang this on our wall as
a constant reminder for the year. Should be good.
We also have broken down our
theme into monthly themes. January - Arise and Be a Leader,
February - Arise and Shine in Your Family, March - Arise and Seek
the Lord, April - Arise and Make a Difference (The Power of One),
May - Arise and Shine in Your Community, June - Arise and Bring
Others with You, July - Arise and Show Your Talents, August - Arise
and Be Somebody's Hero, September - Arise and Shine in Your School,
October - Arise and Shine in Your Neighborhood, November - Arise and
Be a Standard to the Nations, December - Arise Ye Women of the
Future.
