For our New Beginnings we are doing a little presentation with the girls- the idea came from an idea you have posted under Personal Progress, the I Will Stand- NB Program- I changed the parts to go with the new Mutual Theme Arise and Shine Forth- attached are the parts that I changed a little- I am then having the lights turned out in the room. ON the table I am having a picture of Christ since He is our light ,and then next to that I have a little lighthouse that will be lit, and then a few of those battery powered candles on the table lit as well.  (Our bishop won't let us light real ones) Then when its time for the presentation I will turn out the lights and each girl will have a battery powered candles but they will be off until its their time for their part- then they will state turn the candle on and say their part, while shining forth- then each girl will say their part ( the narrator will just keep their light on) then for a song, since none of us our musical- we are signing Teach me to walk in the light- after the girls have said their part they will stand to the side with the candle still lit and then they will be in a group over there- so they will be ready to sing the song with the candles lit- they are singing the 1st verse, the leaders and Bishopric and parents are signing the 2nd verse and all of us are singing the last one- so I think it will be neat and point out the actual theme and its meaning. During the presentation we are also reviewing the purpose of each age group and going over their mission stmt. At the end I will then do my part after the girls have done theirs and talk about the light of Christ, and how we get our light from him but then its our responsibility to shine that light for the nations and compare it to a lighthouse- then we are giving our girls that night a charm bracelet that will help them with PP, each value they complete their experiences for, they will get an additional charm- but for NB we will give them the bracelet with a lighthouse on it (I got these off CharmingLDSgifts.com)- so we are excited and think it will be a wonderful night!  For our dessert we are making ice cream cakes- our secretary has a recipe for them and the ice cream in them will be the value colors- then you drizzle chocolate syrup on them!  YUM!

Narrator:

The Mutual Theme for 2006 is” Arise and shine forth, that thy light may be a standard for the nations" (D&C 115:5).

As Young Women, we have been called to Arise and Shine forth so that others may see our Light.  This means that we must be the example, that we must live our lives as Christ.  The Young Women program gives us a set of values to live by.  Making these values a part of our lives will help us Arise and Forth.  In our YW them we state we will Stand as A Witness of God at all time and all things and in all places.  We are setting the standard for the nations.  Our Young Women program, the values and Personal Progress teach us how to live so that we may have the light of Christ in our Lives and in turn shine that light for others to see.

Faith:  I am a Young Woman of Faith. Faith is the First principle of the gospel, the foundation upon which all other virtues are built.  The apostle Paul taught that without Faith it is impossible to please God. Having Faith means knowing that I am a daughter of a Heavenly Father, who loves me, and has an eternal plan, which centers on Jesus Christ.  I will faithfully prepare myself to Arise and Shine Forth, that my light may be a standard for the Nations. I will have faith in Heavenly Father, and his plan for me.  I will live faithfully so that I may return to him and be a shining example to those around me so they will want to do the same.

Divine Nature: I am a Young Woman of Divine Nature.  I have inherited Divine Qualities, which I strive to develop.  I have my own divine mission, which I must fulfill as I stand as a witness of God and let the light of Christ Shine through me.  We have been given “exceeding great and precious promises, that by these we may be partakers of the Divine Nature, escaping the corruption that is in the world”.  I will live so that I may receive the promises that come through my Divine Nature.  My divine qualities will shine and nations will take notice.

Individual Worth:   I am a Young Women with Individual Worth.  I recognize that I can be virtuous, temperate, patient, godly, and charitable.  As I let the light of Christ into my life I will realize that I am of infinite worth. I will always remember “the worth of souls is great in the sight of God”.  I have my own qualities and talents that make me special and they will help me Arise and Shine forth, that I may be standard for the nations.

Knowledge:  I am a Young Women of Knowledge. I continually seek opportunities for learning and growth.  The Lord has commanded us to “Seek learning by study and also by faith”.  As I increase my faith and knowledge of my divine nature and individual worth, I learn more about my Heavenly Father and myself.  This will help me to prepare to Arise and Shine forth to be a standard for the nations.

Choice and Accountability: I am a Young Woman that represents Choice and accountability.  My knowledge of God and His gospel helps me remain free to choose good over evil and accept responsibility for my choices. We are instructed to “Choose ye this day whom ye will serve”.  I choose to Serve the Lord.  I know that good choices will bless my life and others.  My light will shine and I will be a standard for the nations as I make wise choices.

Good Works:  I am Young Woman of Good Works.  I will strive to build the kingdom of God through righteous service and good works.  Jesus said, “Let your light so shine before this people, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”  I know that I will Arise and Shine Forth, that my good works will be an example to those around me.

Integrity:  I am a Young Woman with Integrity.  I have the moral courage to make my actions consistent with my knowledge of right and wrong.  The prophet Job said “ I know that my Redeemer liveth… and ‘til I die I will not remove mine integrity from me.”  I have personal integrity as I strive to obey the laws and ordinances of the gospel.  Like Job, I know that my Redeemer lives, and I prepare to Arise and Shine forth, and stand as a witness of Him by living what I believe with integrity.

Narrator: We as Young Women will come to accept and act upon these values that we are learning about.  As we do, we will Arise and Shine forth, we will stand as a witness of God, preparing to strengthen home and family, make and keep sacred covenants, and enjoy the blessings of exhalation. We want to prepare to Arise and Shine forth, so that our light and testimonies may shine and be a standard for the nations.  Each age group in the Young Women's program has a purpose statement – these mission statements will help us share our light with others as we grow in the gospel.

Beehive President: A Beehive becomes a Young Woman of Truth as she follows the promptings of the Holy Ghost, seeks truth, and strives to live and share it. Beehives learn about the seven young women values and have experiences that help them feel the Holy Ghost. By prayer, we learn that through the Holy Ghost we may know the truth of all things. We prepare to Arise and Shine forth and stand as a witness of God by becoming Young Women of Truth and letting our light shine.

Mia Maid President: A Mia Maid becomes a Young Woman of Promise as she honors her baptismal covenants to keep God's commandments, to receive His blessings, and to have His Spirit to be with her as she builds a loving relationship with her Heavenly Father and those around her. Mia Maids learn more about our Father in Heaven as they study the scriptures and develop their knowledge of the gospel. As a Mia Maid learns these things the light of Christ will come into her life and she will prepare to stand as a witness of God and let her shine by becoming Young Women of Promise.

Laurel President: A Laurel becomes a Young Woman of Faith as she more fully experiences the Savior's love and prepares to receive the ordinances of the temple by living, teaching, and sharing the gospel. Laurels learn more about the important covenants made in the holy temple that help us reach exaltation and the light that will come to her as she makes choices that will lead her to the temple.  She will prepare to stand as a witness of God by becoming Young Women of Faith and arise and shine forth as she prepares to go to the temple.  Her light will shine for the nations to see.
