"There’s No Place Like Home"
By: Patricia Verwer

Narrator: We would like to welcome you to our Young Women New Beginnings program. I am sure that many of you remember Charles Dickens classic story titled "A Christmas Carol". This evening we won’t be hearing the voices of ghosts from Christmas’s past, present, or future. I’m afraid your stuck with me. I am your narrator. I will be taking you to the homes of some of our Young Women. You’ll be able to see and hear them and their families, but hopefully they won’t be able to see or hear us. So just click your heels together three times, and repeat after me…..There’s no place like home.

(Play a tape recording of a family laughing and playing together)

Narrator: Lets visit (insert name of YW). I wonder if she is even awake yet. You know how teenagers like their sleep.

Bedroom (Faith, Divine Nature) (YW is kneeling by her bed. Scriptures are opened on the bed and she is writing in her journal. She speaks out loud while writing in her journal.)

**YW > What a great day. I met a new girl. She seems a little shy. Boy, do I know how it feels to be the new girl. I don’t know what I would have done without my faith in our Savior and the support of my family. I have so much to Be Grateful for.

**Mother > (Insert name of YW), are you about ready for bed?

**YW > Almost mom. I’m just writing in my journal. Hey Mom, do you keep a journal?

**Mother > I do. Would you like me to show you?

**YW > Yeah.

**Mother > (She leaves to get journal then returns) Here you go. What would you like to know?

**YW > How about you read to me your feelings on the day I was born.

(Mother opens journal as lights begin to fade)

Narrator: What a great memory! Times like these really bring us closer together. Hey why don’t we go over to the (insert name of family)? You know what a great garden they have….pause…. Oh man…. (insert name of YW) and her mom are already hard at work. Let’s listen in.

Garden (Individual Worth, Knowledge) *YW & her mother are working & talking in the garden

**YW > Why am I the one stuck out here in this pile of weeds?

**Mother > It won’t be a pile of weeds when we get finished. Besides by the time you’re a mother you’ll Be so Smart. You’ll know all there is to know about gardens. And just think, we’re following the prophet’s council AND making a memory together!! What could be more fun?

**YW > You’ve got to be kidding!! Mom, you really need to get out more.

**Mother > What’s wrong (insert name of YW). You seem preoccupied . Anything you want to talk about?

**YW > No. Not really.

********* a few seconds pass ************

**YW > Mom, when you were my age did you have a testimony?

**Mother > The testimony I had then, was different from the testimony I have now. Our testimonies are like these plants. They are always growing. I remember the first time I really felt the Spirit………..

(Lights start to fade.)

Another great memory. I would love my mom or my dad to share with me the times they have felt the Spririt. What a legacy to pass on from generation to generation. Hey….do you hear that. It sounds like a family home evening lesson. What fun!! It must be coming from the (insert name of family). Why don’t we stop in and see what their doing.

Family Room (Choice & Accountability) *YW is teaching a family home evening

**YW > Repentance is just like this soap. It washes away our sins so our spirits can Be Clean again.

**Mother > shares testimony of this principle

** YW>…. Now…..who wants to play the game we learned at mutual?

(Lights begin to fade as game begins)

Still yet another wonderful memory! Don’t you just love Family nights. What a great opportunity for some family fun. WOW! Do you smell that wonderful smell. I bet it is the (insert family name). Lets head over there and see what’s cooking.

Kitchen (Good Works, Integrity) *Mother & Daughter are cooking dinner.

**YW > This was such a great idea. Dad is going to be so surprised. So Mom, tell me how you met dad.

**Mother > Well, Once upon a time there was this knight in shinning armor who promised his fair maiden that he would always Be True and it all began with just a simple…….

** Lights beging to fade**

Serving your family. What a great way to show your family just how much you love them. I don’t know about you, but I would love to peek in on the (insert name of Bishop’s family) family and see just how they REALLY end their day. Come on let’s go.

Family kneeling in Prayer

**YW > Mom, why do we kneel together to pray?

**Mother> To show humility to our Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ.

(Narrator starts to whisper) What a special family moment. The Bishop’s family really believes in Being Prayerful and Being Humble. What a great opportunity to feel the Spirit together, and to pray out loud for one another. Let’s head back.

Narrator: I don’t know about you, but I’ve got a few ideas I want to try. I know that we live in a troubled world. I also know that I can help "Strengthen my home and my Family" in these latter days. I realize we can’t change everything at once, but maybe we could start by picking just one area …….maybe family prayer. I’m also going to try harder to spiritually prepare myself so I will be able to feel the promptings of the Spirit and help my family in ways that would be pleasing to the Lord. The Young Womens program can help my family with this. In fact a new line has been added to our Young Women Theme for this very purpose. **Will all YW please stand for Truth and Righteousness. (YW repeat theme) This year in YW’s our focus will be "As we Keep the Spirit, and Stand in Holy Places, How great shall be our joy!" Let’s now listen to what our Bishop has to say.

Remarks: Bishop
